Cinellie

One of dozens of large insects native to Cipa’nid; the cinellie is the most commonly domesticated species, and have been carried to every planet where large populations of Cipa’ci dwell.  Similar to beetles, but averaging nearly 50lbs, cinellie have a bright red exoskeleton, forming a dome like shell on its back.  Beneath the shell are powerful wings that create a terrible hum when a swarm of the bugs are in flight.  They eat anything smaller than themselves, rodents, foul, fish, dogs… anything.  On Cipa’nid the bugs are kept in barns and fed several times a day to keep them docile.  Despite their appetites cinellie will not attack anything larger than themselves, even in large numbers.  The Cipa’ci have bred an inherent fear of larger animals into the bugs.
