Kakkishu

A massive rodent, they are native to the Nahilee continent of the south west hemisphere on the planet Pyrah. The kakkishu are herbivores that live in small herds, and feed on the trunks of the century old trees across Nahilee where they herd back and forth as the seasons change.  A mostly docile beast, the big rodents can do quite a bit of damage when enraged.  Giving no indication of aggression, a kakkishu can appear totally calm until the very last second before sinking its foot long razor sharp incisors into what ever it perceives as a threat.

The kakkishu stand approximately five meters at the top of the head, and just as long from nose to tail.  They have a fuzzy tail that hangs half way to the ground.  Their home on Nahilee is sparsely populated with a few isolated Apsu encampments, so their encounters with the Apsu and other sentient races are minimal; kakkishu have no inherent fear of other animals.  The only natural predator on the continent is breed of smallish Pyranese tigers known as Nahilee raiders that hunt older and sickly kakkishu lagging behind the herd.

Early Apsu settlers attempted to build homes on Nahilee, only to have the kakkishu wipe out their settlements in yet unexplained stampedes of multiple herds trampling all in their path.  This behavior had not been seen during observations before settlement, nor has it been seen since.  A single tree bound habitat is usually safe, but any large concentration of Apsu on the continent is avoided.  Domestication was also attempted but the huge rodents had no agricultural value, milking was next to impossible due to their short tempers (not to mention the sour taste.)  Their meet was found to be unappetizing to the Apsu, though the Cipa’ci took a liking to it as an occasional treat; their preference for fish killed the possibility for large exports.
